Severe Constipation – The Causes
Severe constipation can be caused from many aspects of your life. More commonly, it’s caused by a lack of fiber in your diet along with not getting enough exercise. There may also be a side effect of some medication that you might be taking as well. These are the two most common causes of constipation, and they can both lead to serious health problems in the future.
Having excessive build up in your intestinal tract will cause the toxins that are meant to be released through a bowel movement, to be released into the blood stream instead. This is not a good thing to have happen to you. Severe constipation is definitely a hazard to your health.
As with any severe health issue, constipation should be taken care of by your family doctor. You may want to try a few remedies before it gets to the severe stage first, though. Things like prunes and prune juice will usually get your bowels loose enough, or you can try something a bit more serious like a couple spoonfuls of castor oil. It was intended to cure constipation, after all, even though it tastes horrible. If you feel the build up and bloating before it becomes too severe, you can always try eating some raw fruits and vegetables for a few days to see if it helps you also.
If your severe constipation lasts for more than a day or two you will need to have it checked out. Some quite serious health issues can occur if it’s not taken care of right away. Laxatives might offer you a bit of comfort before the severe stage, but be warned that they can be habit forming and, in some cases, cause more problems than they cure. If you do take laxatives and they are not giving you the comfort you are seeking, then make sure to tell your doctor that you have taking them and how long. Also make sure to tell him the dosage that you have been taking. This will help him when deciding what to prescribe you to help relieve your severe constipation problems without causing you more issues in the future.
