Constipation Toddler Issues

Every mother has had constipation toddler issues since the beginning of time. It seems that no matter what is done, the poor child will suffer this more than once in a lifetime, and being a toddler just makes it that much harder on them. There are many ways that this can occur, anything from the toddler being scared to have a bowel movement to them not getting enough fluids in during the day. If your toddler has constipation there are a few things that you can try to help them out.

Most constipation toddler issues arise from the child not wanting to go to the restroom. This might be a very problematic issue especially during potty training. You should try to encourage the toddler to use the toilet as often as possible. Just like the sound of running water can cause an adult to have to urinate. Discussing going to the bathroom with your toddler every couple hours can have the same effect. When they do finally use the toilet, make sure that you congratulate them in a way that makes them feel they have done something great. Give them a treat like a mini bran muffin or whole grain cookie of some kind.

If the constipation toddler issue is not a fear based issue or potty training issue, then there are a few remedies that you can try. If the constipation is not too severe, you can try giving them a couple ounces of apple juice or cider. This will usually get them regular within a few hours and has been a homeopathic cure for constipation for centuries. Also, giving them some apple slices will help as well.

You may also find that there are some over the counter medications to help for small children but you should be very careful with things like that. Make sure you discuss any medication with your pediatrician before giving it to your child. They might have a better idea of something you can try for constipation toddler problems that won’t cause any issues in the long run.
