Constipation Enema

One of the many remedies that people will try when they have problems with irregularity is through a constipation enema. These are typically not the first choice when faced with the misery of constipation but it may become necessary. Only after trying stool softeners and laxatives will an enema be used. It is also at this point that a visit to the doctor or emergency room is necessary to get things righted again.
Enemas are not brought into play until it is evident that there is quite a serious blockage of some sort that will not respond to laxatives. Rather than keep trying something that is obviously failing, a constipation enema is administered. While not very pleasant, they can do wonders to unblock whatever is holding up the evacuation process.

These enemas typically consist of a solution being inserted directly into the rectum and reaching into the colon. Years ago, solutions of warm water was put into a hot water bottle with a long hose attached to it. This hose had a small nozzle that slipped right into the rectum and the water was let go to rush into the hose and into the colon. These enemas are not quite so involved today as in the past. However, a true constipation enema should be administered by a professional medical person unless you have a lot of experience in doing this.

Whoever ends up administering the enema, you need to make sure that YOU are very close to a toilet. Enemas act very quickly and you will feel the urge to move your bowels before the enema has totally been emptied into your colon. This is definitely not a time when you want to have to travel very far to relieve yourself comfortably.

While an enema is not a pleasant experience, it WILL be effective. There will be some abdominal cramping and the urge to go will typically hit you more than once. However, a constipation enema will be the answer to the more serious and stubborn constipation problems, so it will probably be well worth whatever unpleasantness you have to go through.

If you find that you require an enema on a regular basis, you definitely should call your doctor for an immediate appointment. There is obviously something very wrong if you are getting THAT constipated all the time. A doctor will be able to examine you and find the cause of your constant misery.
