Constipation Cause – What Is It?

While it is widely believed that the constipation cause is due to digesting food that is moving too slowly through any part of the intestine, the truth is that the slowing down begins mostly in the colon. It is of more concern as to the root cause of this so that it can be corrected. Once that is discovered and corrected, the constipation should be gone.

There are many things that can cause this slowing down of digestion. One of the strongest ones is the diet. If someone is not getting enough fiber in his or her diet, that is a definite constipation cause. Be sure to include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet as these are the best natural sources of fiber.

Habit is another reason that someone can become constipated. Most people find that there is a certain time of the day that they have a bowel movement. It is not always convenient when the urge to go hits, as in when a bathroom is not available. The urge can usually be stopped but if it is repressed too often, this can result in constipation. It’s best to pay attention to this urge when at all possible.

Certain medications can also be a constipation cause. This is a reason that is often overlooked when trying to discover the underlying cause someone is constipated. Pain medications that contain narcotics are high on the list of suspects, as are anti-depressants, anti-convulsants, and iron supplements.

Laxatives are a reason that someone may become constipated. While that may not make a lot of sense as laxatives are used to promote bowel movements, it is a known fact that using laxatives too often will make your body dependant on them. When this happens, your system will become sluggish and immune to the very aid that is to help your uncomfortable situation.

There are several other conditions that are considered to be a constipation cause but you will need to be examined by your doctor in order to find out just what your particular cause is. A doctor visit is especially needed if none of the normal remedies have been working. Most likely there is a need for something a bit more effective.
