Child Constipation
Child constipation is something that is quite common and nearly every child experiences it at some point. It is not surprising given the things that children tend to put into their mouths and therefore, their stomachs. Parents do their best to keep their children on a healthy diet but they really cannot watch them every single second of every day. Sooner or later, something not so healthy is going to be a temptation to them that they will succumb to. Then the next thing you know they will be constipated. It really can happen just that fast.
Child constipation is something that should be expected to happen by parents and they should be ready to deal with it when the time comes. The best way to begin is by trying some of those home remedies that people have used for centuries. One of the best ways to get a child to drink milk is by adding a bit of flavor to it. Put in a bit of blackstrap molasses and some honey, and you will serve two purposes. Your child will enjoy the taste of the milk and will also be getting something that will encourage his or her bowels to move.
If child constipation occurs on a less than occasional basis or becomes very painful, you should definitely call your child’s doctor and make an appointment. It may be that there is something more going on than just a poor diet. Whatever the problem is, the doctor can perform an examination to find out the cause. When the problem is located, the doctor can then prescribe the best solution for it. Sometimes very young children may swallow such things as a small toy. If this is the cause for the constipation, it can be dealt with quickly and easily.
Eating too much of certain foods can cause child constipation. Some of the culprits are different types of candy, cheese, or some kinds of pasta. When this is the cause of the constipation, a stool softener or laxative usually does the trick. Even one of those simple home remedies can help alleviate the problem. Unlike over the counter laxatives, the milk, molasses and honey remedy is not addictive. It can be served to your child as often as you like. If anything, it will help in keeping them regular even when they have managed to eat foods that tend to be constipating.
