Causes of Constipation
Causes of constipation can be many. A lot of people believe that constipation is brought about by digesting food that is moving too slow through the intestine. That is not exactly all of it, though. The slow motion starts mostly in the colon but even this has a reason for happening. It is that very reason that must be found and fixed. When that happens, the constipation should be eliminated.
Of course, the diet is a major root cause when it comes to being constipated. It is imperative that each person has enough fiber in his or her diet. With a poorly constructed diet being one of the biggest causes of constipation, it would seem that eating the right amount of fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains would be a high priority. Sadly and puzzlingly, it is not. When the diet is not a good one, constipation will set in and the sufferer will wonder what brought it on.
Getting enough exercise goes hand in hand with eating the right kinds of food. The exercise keeps your system running and things moving the way in which they were intended. Think of your body as a well oiled machine. If it is not maintained in the right way, it will become sluggish and won’t work at all.
Habit is also on the list of causes of constipation. For example, if you are like most people, you may have a certain time of day when your bowels usually tell you they are ready to move. When you are in a position to reach a bathroom, there is no problem. However, you may not ALWAYS be in place where you can just slip into the bathroom so you wait. If this happens too many times, the waiting will cause you to become constipated. Also get to a toilet if you possibly can when you feel the urge to move your bowels.
Abusing laxatives can also be one of the causes of constipation. The more your body depends on them, the more you will need them to go at all. This is a very dangerous health hazard and should be avoided. While it is fine to use laxatives on occasion, they should never be used on a regular basis.
The important thing to remember is that there are so many reasons that a person becomes constipated, and if you are abnormally so, you need to get in touch with your doctor as soon as possible. Once the cause has been discovered, the cure can begin.
